Tamarix gallica Standard
Origin: western Mediterranean. Deciduous shrub or small tree with an unruly habit, typically found along the Mediterranean coast where it is spontaneous. Dark reddish or brownish bark and scaly grey-light blue leaves. Frothy, pinkish-white flowers from April to June, grouped in slim spikes. Prefers light, sandy soil and tolerates salt wind very well.
