Styrax japonicus Bush
Origin: China, Korea, Japan. Deciduous large shrub or small tree with branches which spread out like a fan, often drooping at the ends. Small leaves ovate to narrow oblong, acuminate. White, scented, bell-like flowers with curved, yellow stamens, in May. Hardy plant, not prone to illness, needs cool, well-drained, neutral to acid soils. Best planted high up, on a wall, slope or banking, in order to admire the mass of cascading flowers.
