Strelitzia

Shrub native to South Africa, formed by large evergreen leaves of 1.5 m, rigid, bottle green, borne on petioles 2 m long. It blooms with pendulous racemes of 50 cm bearing flowers with elongated sepals and erect petals. When grown in a pot, it requires fertile soil and partial shade exposure; it needs large containers due to its extensive roots, fertile and well-draining soil.
