Sterculia platanifolia

Tree native to Vietnam and Japan with a wide, rounded crown and green bark. Deciduous leaves 25-45 cm long, three- to seven-lobed, dark green. Blooms in late spring with 20-30 cm panicles of yellow-green flowers. Fruits in autumn with fleshy fruits that open at maturity revealing seeds. Grows in all fertile, well-drained soils. Used alone in gardens, avenues, and parks, also in groups.
