Schinus molle

Evergreen dioecious tree native to Mexico and Peru, with a weeping crown and a knotted trunk covered with reddish-gray, furrowed bark. Leaves composed of 31-35 dark green leaflets that smell like pepper. Blooms from April to July with racemes 20-30 cm long of yellowish five-petaled flowers. The fruits are pink-red, half a centimeter in size, round, and borne in clusters that remain on the plant from August to December. Hardy, highly tolerant of drought and salt, it is used in parks and gardens in coastal areas.
