Quercus rubra (Quercus borealis)
Tree with a globular and dense crown, erect trunk and robust, almost horizontal branches, bark initially smooth and gray, later becoming brown and rough. Deciduous leaves dull green, dark red in autumn, tri- and pentalobed, pointed, 10 to 25 cm long. The fruits are acorns held by shallow cups. Prefers permeable and deep soils, dislikes limestone, used alone in parks or along avenues.
