Quercus rubra (Quercus borealis)
Tree with a globose and dense crown, upright trunk, and robust, almost horizontal branches; bark initially smooth and gray, later becoming brown and rough. Deciduous leaves are matte green, dark red in autumn, tri- and pentalobed, pointed, measuring 10 to 25 cm in length. The fruits are acorns borne by shallow cups. Prefers permeable and deep soils, dislikes limestone, and is used alone in parks or along avenues.
