Platanus acerifolia

Large tree native to England, with a massive trunk and a globose, spreading crown, with drooping twigs at the ends. Bark is thin, brown-gray, and peeling. Deciduous leaves are tri- and five-lobed, green in spring, yellow-brown in autumn, 20-22 cm wide. Blooms in spring with yellow or red flowers (depending on whether male or female), not very showy. Produces paired fruits, initially green and brown when mature, which remain on the tree for a long time. Grows in various soil types but prefers moist, siliceous, and deep soils. Resistant to sudden heat, pollution, and not too severe pruning; used in parks and wide avenues.
