Platanus

Large tree native to England, with a massive trunk and a globular, expanded crown, with branches that droop at the tips. The bark is brown-gray, thin, and exfoliating. The deciduous leaves are three- or five-lobed, green in spring, yellow-brown in autumn, and 20-22 cm wide. It blooms in spring with yellow or red flowers (depending on whether they are male or female), not very showy. It fruits with paired fruits, initially green and turning brown when mature, which remain on the tree for a long time. It grows in various types of soil but prefers humid, siliceous, and deep soils. It withstands sudden heat, pollution, and moderately severe pruning and is used in parks and wide avenues.
