Fruit tree native to Central and South America. Leaves are tough, dark green with a lighter underside, up to 20 cm long. It blooms in April-May with greenish flowers gathered in axillary racemes. It fruits immediately afterward with pear-shaped fruits 10–20 cm long and 7–10 cm wide, with green skin and yellowish pulp. It grows well in the warm areas of Italy, requires well-drained, rich, and neutral soils. It needs watering during the growing season.
