Opuntia
A plant native to Central and South America, widely distributed in the Mediterranean basin. The leaves are initially fleshy and green, becoming woody and grey over time. It blooms in April–May with yellow flowers, followed shortly by edible yellow-orange berries. It grows in all soil types and is resistant to drought.
