Olea europaea

Tree native to Mediterranean areas, which can reach a height of 9 meters and a width of 5-7 meters in century-old specimens. When young, the trunk is straight and covered with smooth gray bark, which becomes more knotted, dark, and rough with age. The evergreen leaves are leathery, oval, dark green on top and glaucous underneath. It blooms from April to June with fragrant but inconspicuous white flowers. The fruits are olives, green when they appear, black when ripe, with a seed inside. It requires deep, well-drained soils, not too wet, with good sun exposure and protection from wind. It is drought-resistant, and its typical hardiness zone is 9.
