Olea

Tree native to the Mediterranean region, which can reach a height of 9 meters and a width of 5–7 meters in century-old specimens. When young, the trunk is straight and covered with smooth gray bark; with age, it becomes more knotted, dark, and rough. The evergreen leaves are leathery, oval, dark green on top and glaucous underneath. It blooms from April to June with fragrant but inconspicuous white flowers. The fruits are olives, green when they form and black when ripe, containing a seed inside. It requires deep, well-drained soils that are not too moist, with good sun exposure and protection from the wind. It is drought-resistant, and its typical hardiness zone is 9.
