Musa basjoo Bush

Origin: Japan. Suckering perennial with false stems which are initially green, later becoming parchment-like with very large (up to 3m), bright green leaves, elongate-lanceolate, arching. Produces clusters of creamy-yellow flowers in summer, enveloped in large reddish-purple bracts. The fruit is decorative but not edible, Grows well even in the flat areas of north Italy as long as the base of the tree is protected by mulching during winter.
