Magnolia liliiflora (M. obovata 'Purpurea')

Shrub with an initially upright then spreading crown. Dark green oval or elliptical leaves, 8-12 cm long. Blooms two weeks after M. x soulangeana with lily-shaped flowers made up of 4-5 dark red petals on the outside and very light inside. It has a second flowering in summer.
