Magnolia

The classic magnolia is M. grandiflora Gallisoniensis, with a conical crown, evergreen oval leaves, dark green with a brown underside, 12-15 cm in size. It blooms in summer with fragrant flowers, 20-25 cm wide, made up of 3-12 petals with yellow stamens. The fruits are red and gathered in clusters of 10 cm. It grows in all acidic, siliceous, and fresh soils and is used in gardens or parks, depending on the care it receives. Among other magnolias, there are deciduous varieties. Originating from East Asia, they bloom before the leaves in spring, and some varieties bloom again in summer. They do not tolerate calcareous soils and prefer rich, moist but permeable, fresh, and deep soils. There are mainly two types: the first has a compact shrub form, star or lily-shaped flowers, and is used alone in meadows or alongside other plants that bloom in spring; the second type has a shrub form until the 10th-15th year of age, after which it takes the form of a tree. These have tulip-shaped flowers and are used as shade trees or large shrubs, and their root system does not cause problems for houses.
