Gunnera manicata (Gunnera brasiliensis)

Plant native to southern Brazil and Colombia. The leaves are 20 cm wide, very long, rounded with serrated edges, borne on spiny petioles and dark green in color. The flowers are green and reddish-brown, inconspicuous, and grouped in conical spikes up to 1 m long. It requires high humidity but is not an aquatic plant; in winter, it is best to protect the base with mulch. It is cultivated along riverbanks and at the edges of ponds and fountains.
