Erythrina crista-galli Standard
Origin: South America. In its native countries and similar climates (e.g. Sicily), it becomes a tree with a thick, rough trunk. When grown in a pot it behaves like a shrubby perennial with strong root system, every year producing herbaceous shoots which end in flowers similar to butterfly-shaped corollas that are continually renewed from June to September. The deciduous leaves are also very beautiful, trifoliate made up of leathery blue-green leaflets.
