Eriobotrya japonica BushOrigin: Japan. Large, evergreen shrub or small tree with globular crown. Leathery leaves, 12-15cm long, 3-6cm wide, dull green on the upper side, russet underneath. Fragrant, creamy-white flowers throughout autumn, grouped in dense, upright panicles. Edible, ovoidal fruit which ripen in spring, 3-6cm long, with pale yellow or orange skin. No special requirements as regards soil as long as it is not too calcareous. Prefers warm, sunny position. Withstands pruning.
