Corylus avellana 'Contorta'
Shrub with upright, dense crown, twisted branches that become drooping with age. The leaves vary in shape but are generally round or oval with woolly or toothed edges, twisted, 5-10 cm long, light green in spring and pale yellow in autumn. Flowers appear before the leaves, gathered in pendulous catkins 3-6 cm long, bright yellow in color. The fruits are edible hazelnuts collected in groups of 1 to 4, smaller than common hazelnuts, with the husk split in half. Grows in all soil types, preferring acidic ones, and can also be grown in pots.
