Tree with a dense, upright crown (except C. avellana “contorta”), deciduous oval leaves, and yellow flowers gathered in hanging clusters. The fruits are hazelnuts, varying by variety. It prefers acidic soils, some varieties can be grown in pots, and it has various uses both as an ornamental plant and in floral and fruit arrangements made by florists.
