Shrub or small tree originating from China Japan and the Island of Java The deciduous leaves are dark green oval and 10 to 20 cm long It blooms abundantly from August to October with pink buds hiding white petals while it fruits with light blue round capsules surrounded by dark red calyxes It also grows well in infertile soils
