Phyllostachys nigra

Running bamboo native to China, with culms initially green that turn dark brown from the second or third year, reaching a diameter of 2-4 cm. The sheaths remain briefly on the culm, are thick and hard, brown-purple in color. The evergreen leaves are dark green, 8-10 cm long and 1-1.5 cm wide. It suffers from strong winds.
