Arbutus
Also known as the Strawberry Tree, it is an evergreen shrub or small tree with a short trunk, rough, reddish-brown bark, a dense crown, and twisted branches. The leaves are oval-shaped, dark glossy green, about 8-10 cm in length. The flowers are white or pink, bell-shaped, and grouped in curved clusters. It blooms in summer and remains in bloom throughout the autumn. The fruits mature in 2 years, are round, about 1-2 cm in diameter, and covered by a red skin. It is resistant to wind, the sea, and industrial pollution, and grows best in neutral to acidic soils.
