Araucaria araucana (Araucaria imbricata)

Conifer from Chile, with a conical or dome-shaped crown, a cylindrical trunk, and horizontal branches. The leaves are dark green, evergreen, thick, 3-4 cm long, and oval or triangular in shape. They cover all the branches and the trunk in youth. The flowers are separate by sex; male flowers are clustered, female flowers are solitary. Cones mature in 2-3 years, initially green, then turn brown and release seeds. It grows well in humid climates, permeable, fertile, cool, and non-compact soils.
