Aesculus hippocastanum Standard

Origin: the cool, humid mountains which separate Albania and Macedonia from Greece. Majestic deciduous tree with round or ovoidal crown. Compound leaves which turn yellow in autumn. Flowers grouped in upright, pyramidal racemes, white and spotted with pink and red at the base. Prickly fruit, which contain one or two shiny brown seeds. This plant is ideal for countries in North Europe or for the cool mountain valleys of Italy. It adapts to various types of soil except if too compact at the surface. It is the largest of our ornamental flowering trees.
