Native to the eastern side of North America. Tree or large shrub with a compact, rounded or conical crown. Deciduous leaves about 10 cm long, three- or five-lobed, dark green on top, bluish-gray underneath, blooms in April, turning red or yellow in autumn. Beautiful flowering in April. Grows in non-calcareous soils and fairly humid climates.
