Origin: Japan, Korea. Large tree, normally with several trunks, or picturesque small tree, young branches a showy bright red. Palmate leaves have 5 (or more) lobes, soft green, often with reddish-pink tips. Autumn colours are yellow, bright orange or red, the intensity of colour varying depending on temperature. Purple-red flowers in May. Ht. m. 5-7. Z 6B
